CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Age Requirement: Candidates must be at least 18 years of age or older. 
• Education Requirement: Candidates must have a high school diploma or have passed an equivalency test (GED).
• Driver’s License: Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under the Department's Vehicle policy. A valid North Carolina driver’s license shall be obtained by date of hire. (Verification required.) Class B license is preferred, and required upon employment.
• North Carolina Firefighter II Certification:   National IFSAC certifications are usually accepted. Confirmation with the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal will be required.
• North Carolina Emergency Vehicle Driver Certification
• Haz-Mat Operations
• Ability to obtain EMT-B within 1 year of Hire Date

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Driver Operator – Pumps Series

• Technical Rescue Certification in Vehicle & Machinery Rescue, Agricultural Rescue, Ropes Specialty

• Experience with written communications and technology

• BlueCard IC Certification

• Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800

• College degree / vocational certificate

• Records of relevant training and experience

• Experience in public/community service, customer service/relations

• Fluent in additional language(s)
