July 31, 2014

@ 22:29hrs Shepherds along with Mooresville Engine 2 were alerted to a reported MVA with injuries on River Hwy & Pinnacle Lane. With no other information given after dispatch Shepherds Engine 2 arrived on location @ 22:36hrs and advised of a multi-vehicle accident command established and would be out investigating. Moments later command came on the air and advised of one head on collision with an entrapment times 2 which after a closer investigation (heavy rain in the area) upgraded one pt involved to a pin-in. Mooresville Engine 2 arrived on location 4 minutes after Shepherds as personnel began going to work utilizing tools from both Engine's to begin freeing multiple pt's. Chief 500 (Robinson) arrived on location soon after and assumed command. The pin-in was declared @ 22:41hrs and the pt free was announced on the air 10 minutes later. Rescue 5 arrived on scene and assisted EMS & FD personnel with pt care and packaging to all 5 pt's involved. CMC's Med-Center Air was downed due to weather. After all pt's were free both SVFD & MFD sent personnel in with EMS to Lake Norman. From the information gathered this incident occurred as a result from a t-bone type collision in which after the accident occurred another vehicle traveling on River Hwy swerved to avoid same and by doing so collided head on with a vehicle involved in the first accident followed by another vehicle traveling from the opposite direction clipping the pickup followed by another vehicle hitting the original vehicle involved from the rear. (I know very confusing to read try typing it!) Mooresville Engine 2 was released & assignment complete @ 23:47hrs with thanks as Shepherds remained on scene for NCSHP and the arrival of several wreckers to clear the roadway. All units were back in normal service @ 00:11hrs. Shepherds would like to give a big thanks to Mooresville Engine 2 B-Shift (Capt.McCoy & crew) on a job well done on a very chaotic and wet scene.
