March 18, 2014

@ 0:52 Troutman along with Shepherds were alerted to reported Hazmat Level 1 (Fluids on the ground) from a MVA with no injuries I-77NB @ 42mm. Troutman Engine 1 along with Rescue 5 were enroute minutes later. The local area was receiving a good amount of rainfall added on by sleet with low temperatures throughout the night. Troutman Engine 1 arrived on location and confirmed the accident in the median with command established and investigation mode in progress. Moments later command advised ECOM to dispatch Mooresville Fire’s Hazmat team to assist with offloading a good amount of fuel from the saddle tanks which was lying in the median, along with EMS to check out one of the patient’s involved. Rescue 5 arrived and assisted with setting up cones for motorists and assisted with traffic control. There were 2 vehicles involved but the tractor trailer was hauling a hummer H3 and various other vehicles when it lost control trying to avoid another vehicle who possibly might of hit a slick spot on the interstate. Once Mooresville’s Hazmat team arrived on scene personnel began offloading the fuel from the saddle tanks. Once that task was complete units awaited for the arrival of 6 different local wreckers before clearing the scene. All units were back in normal service within 1 and a half hours.
