By Asst. Chief Danny Beauvais
July 3, 2014

A severe storm was moving through Iredell County producing various calls for service for many Departments within the county. The department hit with the most calls was Troutman with calls ranging from tree's down/power lines, and various others. Around 20:25hrs Troutman was alerted to a smoke in the area call with ECOM advising they were receiving multiple calls about black smoke. Moments later Statesville Battalion 1 (A.Weatherman) checked on scene of Godfrey Lumber with heavy black smoke coming from one of the buildings thus declaring a working fire and added additional resources from Wayside FD & Statesville Fire Engine 1. As units began arriving on location for suppression efforts the fire proved to be very difficult to control. With high humidity & temperatures already in the high 80's additional departments and resources were once again called for: Monticello & West Iredell FD's. After about 40 minutes into same Shepherds was toned out to standby our base to provide coverage for Troutman per Chief 100 (A.Church). During the coverage Shepherds Engine 1 responded to a local medical for Troutman and upon arrival had a working CPR in progress. Personnel were on location for about 40 minutes before clearing. Shepherds station 1 was manned by Volunteer personnel till about 3am. Around 06:40 Troutman was once again toned out to a rekindle at the Lumber yard. Upon arrival Of Chief 100 he declared the building fully involved and requested additional units (Greater Alarm). (This is where helping hands comes in) As Departments from from Iredell, Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Rowan, Catawba & Davie counties all assisted with providing additional manpower. All units were assignment complete at 18:02hrs.
