With Iredell county under a “Red Flag Warning” (Conditions that are ideal for wildland fire ignition and rapid propagation) Numerous departments in the county where beginning to receive calls for service for grass & woods fires. @ 13:44 Shepherds, Troutman and Engine 2 were alerted to a grass fire around the 400 block of Normandy Rd. FF S.Brown arrived on location first and advised of a 20 x 30 area involved in front of the residence. MFD Engine 2, Shepherds Brush 1 were able to handle same with ease. @ 15:23 Shepherds first responders and Engine 2 were alerted to a reported unconscious patient at Queens Landing. Shepherds firefighters Bednarik & Williamson who were close to the area responded and arrived on location to find a nurse performing chest compressions. FF Williamson quickly radioed in “CPR in progress” to ECOM and immediately began patient care. FF Bednarik who carries a AED with him at all times applied the pads and gave the first shock before any apparatus arrived on location. Within 15 minutes the pt had a pulse back and breathing on his own. Med-Center Air was contacted for the pt and the LZ was held at Big Daddy’s restaurant and handled by Capt 550 (J.Craver) on Shepherds Engine 2 where all units were assignment complete after pt care was transferred. (Shepherds would like to give a huge pat on the back to FF Bednarik & Williamson for their efforts on this particular incident along with other first responders. We know you do this because you love to help people in their time of need and don’t expect or need to receive any special treatment/gratitude but we would like for you to know that your love and dedication does not go Un-noticed!!) @ 16:35 Shepherds & Engine 4 were alerted to local medical (Hemorrage) where a male pt had badly cut his arm from a knife throwing incident which resulted in Med-Center Air to be contacted for flight services. Personnel and units on scene worked feverishly to control the bleeding which proved very difficult. Shepherds Chief 500 (K.Robinson) established the LZ @ Shepherds Station 1 where once again personnel handed over the packaged pt to Med Center air upon their arrival.
