Shepherds Fire began preparing for what local meteorologist were calling the biggest snow storm to hit the North Carolina area in 10 years. Although the timing of delivery was off the Shepherds fire district indeed saw heavy amounts of snow fall, sleet and black ice. Expecting the worse (call volume wise) we were pleasantly surprised as a grand total of 3 calls were only dispatched: 1 medical local, 1 vacant building collapse (never found) & 1 assist a stranded motorist. During the course of the next 2 days the calls began increasing steadily as roads and neighborhood's began thawing out bringing in the normal medical locals, possible house fires and MVA's. Although were glad to see snow every once in a while we could very well do without the sleet & ice that also came along with it.
