January 20, 2014

@ 12:53 Shepherds was alerted to assist Troutman with a possible house fire around the 300 block of Talley Street. Moments after dispatch ECOM alerted all units that Troutman PD arrived on location and advised of smoke coming from the eaves of the structure. Chief 100 (A.Church) arrived and advised of a working structure fire. Shepherds Engine 3 checked "Responding" but due to Tanker 1's closer proximity the crew on that rig picked up the call. Upon Tanker 1's arrival operator (Capt Craver) and officer (Capt Taylor) were advised to enter the structure and assist with fire suppression activities as Troutman units had already established a secure water supply. Craver completed the task of pulling ceilings and checking for extension while Taylor went up to the attic to assist units with suppression. A control time was issued at 13:22hrs. Tanker 1 stayed on scene to assist with mop-up and overhaul and was released per command at 14:12hrs. Meanwhile back on the west-side Engine 3 had just left from the Staples store on River Hwy when Mooresville Engine 2 was dispatched to a reported MVA pedestrian struck in front of Lowe's home improvement. Engine 3 monitored the radio traffic on Mooresville Fire dispatch. ECOM advised units responding that from what they could gather from the callers the subject was trapped underneath the front wheels of the vehicle and workers on scene were attempting to use a forklift to lift the vehicle off of the pt. Mooresville Battalion 1 (R.Colvert) advised ECOM to advise the caller NOT to perform same and Engine 2 would be there shortly. Engine 2 arrived on scene within 2 minutes and OIC (Capt McCoy) quickly radioed in that the pt would be trapped and critical. Engine 2's personnel quickly began providing life saving skills/practices on the pt. Battalion 1 upgraded the incident to a rescue box thus adding Rescue-Engine 5. Command also advised ECOM to auto-launch Med Center Air. At this point Engine 3 was at the intersection of River Hwy & Bluefield Rd and advised Battalion 1 of there location. Battalion 1 advised Engine 3 to come on in and assist with "Extra Hands" on this incident. Both Battalion 1 & Engine 3 arrived on location simultaneously and went to work accordingly. Engine 3 operator Chief 515 (Beauvais) and FF.Williamson assisted with grabbing tools, various items/tools for pt care, packaging & loading. The pt was freed by Rescue-Engine 5's crew led by OIC (Capt Harrell) by utilizing rescue jacks on each side of the vehicle. Once free from underneath the vehicle the pt was quickly packaged and loaded for transport to the LZ (Landing Zone) where Engine 4 handled same. Shepherds would like to thank Mooresville Fire for allowing us to be able to help provide an extra set of hands in mitigating this particular incident.

**ALSO- Thank you to Troutman 111 (Asst.Fire Chief Chad Morrow) who was off duty and provided assistance by holding C-Spine during the entire ordeal of this call until the pt was freed and to the off duty Huntersville Firefighter who assisted in breathing for the patient via bag valve mask. If anyone from Huntersville Fire reading this would contact me (dbeauvais@shepherdsfire.com) i would like to get the name of the individual. Job well done from all agencies/Engine's involved.
