The past week and a half has been steady for the men Of Shepherds Fire-Rescue call wise and very active with the news that Shepherds was awarded with a Federal grant to purchase new SCBA packs along with a cascade system to help us with the ability to have new state of the art equipment, as well as beginning the planning phase of our new outbuilding which will contain a class room setting, showers and various places for storage for apparatus and equipment. We also have ran several incidents ranging from Hazmat Level 1 response where a tractor trailer carrying several junk cars took a turn off the road and didn't quite make it causing a small fuel leak from it's saddle tank, the usual local medicals, first due and mutual aid AFA's (Automatic Fire Alarm activations) and assisting the Town Of Troutman & Mooresville Fire twice for a move up to their station 1 while units were busy on a working structure fire then that same night sending Engine 3 to assist on a large mulch fire. Within 25 minutes from providing the town with Engine 3 Shepherds was alerted to assist Catawba County Station 16 (Sherrills Ford) with an Engine company to move to their headquarters while units were busy on a working structure fire in SFTFR first due. Minutes later Engine 1 was out the door and enroute with 4 on board. After arriving at station 16 the main dispatch channel was pretty quiet up until 23:15hrs. Shepherds was alerted to assist EMS on local medical off of Little Mt Road. The Engine was out the door and enroute to the location given. Upon arrival EMS had just arrived on location and advised us they could handle. Soon after clearing Little Mt, Fire Center dispatched Shepherds again to another medical off of Hopewell Church Rd. After arriving on location SFTFR first responders advised the Engine to clear and head back to quarters for coverage. Engine 1 was assignment complete and enroute back into Iredell County a little bit after midnight with thanks for the assistance from the Ford and Deputy Fire Chief 1601 (J.Butler)
