@ 15:30 Shepherds along with South Iredell, Mount Mourne, Troutman & Mooresville Engine 4 were alerted to a reported building fire around the 100 block of Ginger Rd. Due to the amount of radio traffic as apparatus were checking in "Responding" and other calls being dispatched Shepherds Engine 1 was the last unit to check in. Engine 4 advised ECOM of smoke showing from Mazeppa Rd. As this traffic was being radioed in Shepherds Engine 1 was arriving on location. OIC Chief 515 (Beauvais) advised of a working outbuilding fire with command being established and would be out investigating. Shortly after investigation Command came back on the air advising he had 2 outbuildings involved with a large grass & woods fire going as well. Command requested that the next in apparatus (which was Mooresville Engine 4) to come down Ginger and tie into Engine 1 for water supply followed by (Shepherds Engine 2) to turn down Albany Drive (road before Ginger) and begin suppression efforts from that area by containing fire's in the woods and down a steep gully. Mooresville Engine 4 arrived on Ginger completed the assigned task and assisted with having their manpower come down to where command was to assist in fire attack on the 2 outbuildings. **Note upon Shepherds Engine 1's arrival Capt Craver stretched a 200ft pre-connect down to where command was ran back to the truck, charged the line/began pumping operations as command began knocking down the fire before the arrival of other mutual aid companies.**. (Back to the story) South Iredell Engine 3 arrived and tied into Engine 4 for additional water as Ginger Rd has no hydrants. Command then directed Mount Mourne to turn in Albany and assist Shepherds Engine 2 with water supply. Troutman Ladder 1 was told to stage out on Shinnville but was then re-directed to standby Shepherds Sta 1 for coverage. A control time was issued within 20 minutes as personnel completed a complete and through mop-up operation. Forestry 1 arrived on scene to assist and investigate same. It was found to be that a construction company clearing land on Albany had a very large burn going and as the winds picked up it carried embers over to Ginger sparking the grass fire which spread to the outbuildings. Forestry 1 directed Shepherds to extinguish the large pit fire going and a request was made for Troutman to bring an additional tanker to the scene along with Lake Norman (who were cancelled prior to arrival but stood by @ Shepherds.) After extinguishing the large burn pile utilizing Engine 2's deck-gun & completing mop-up command was terminated and all units were back in normal service within 1 and a half hours. Shepherds would like to thank all Departments involved, Mooresville Engine 4's crew with the assistance of helping us rack back our crosslays and to Lake Norman & Troutman for providing coverage at our station 1 while we had units tied up.
