The last day in the year 2014 proved to be a busy one for the daytime staff @ Shepherds. After completing various station duties including washing and moping the bay floors the first run was sounded @ 10:00hrs to assist Mooresville Fire with a reported house fire (which initially came in as a fire alarm activation). First due units arrived on location with nothing evident from the outside. After forcing entry into the residence smoke began issuing out thus requiring upgrading the initial box assignment. Companies on location were able to quickly mitigate the situation as Shepherds along with additional MFD units were told to go available per command. @ 12:02hrs Shepherds along with Engine 4 were alerted to a reported AFA (Automatic fire alarm) activation in the 100 block of Bay Shore Loop (Shepherds first due.) Engine 1 arrived on location shortly after with a 4 story residential structure with nothing evident and began investigating. Moments later the cause of activation was purely accidental as companies went available. @ 12:38hrs Shepherds & Mooresville Engine 2 were alerted to a local medical (In station 2's due) which was quickly handled by both companies. Lunch (if you want to call several short bites) was cut short @ 14:04hrs as Shepherds was once again summoned for service to assist South Iredell with a AFA. South Iredell Engine 1 arrived shortly after with nothing evident from a large worship facility. Upon gaining access a thick haze was found in the gymnasium. After investigation from SIFD & Mount Mourne personnel same was found to be a mechanical issue in a air handling unit. Shepherds assisted with utilizing their positive pressure fan off of Engine 1 to clear remaining haze from the building. Shepherds was back in service within 45 minutes. @ 15:16hrs Shepherds was again alerted for service to assist Troutman with a possible building fire around the 200 block of Murdock Rd. Troutman units arrived on location and advised of a working fire as a header could be seen from N.Main St. Personnel utilized the "Fly The Y" method by stretching a section of 2' 1/2 hose and connecting it to 1' 3/4 hose while climbing up Troutman Ladder 1's aerial device and hooking into the ladder tip for suppression efforts. Shepherds arrived on location as the fifth due company led by Capt 550 (J.Craver) and stood by in staging for a brief moment before being assigned the task of investigating the interior of the building for extension along a nearby ductwork. A control time was issued within 40 minutes as personnel from all agencies involved assisted with a little overhaul, re-packing hose lines and placing equipment back into service. Shepherds was assignment complete and back available after about an hour. Shepherds would like to wish our community, membership & followers a very happy & safe New Year!!
