By Asst. Chief Danny Beauvais
October 24, 2014

@ 13:58hrs Shepherds was alerted to assist Lake Norman on a possible house fire around the 500 block of Isle Of Pines Rd. Minutes after dispatch Shepherds Engine 1 (W/3) were responding to the location given. During response ECOM advised all units that they were receiving multiple calls on same advising a fully involved garage fire. Moments later Chief 1100 (A.Weatherman) advised of header that could be seen and arrived on location shortly after to confirm a 2 story residential structure with heavy fire involvement to the garage area with command being established. Shepherds Engine 1 arrived on location as the 5th due Engine Co, beached the apparatus to the side allowing room for tankers to supply much needed water. Capt 530 (S.Taylor) along with FF Conley were assigned the task of primary search of the residence (proved negative) followed by suppression efforts in the garage. Engine 1 operator Beauvais was told per command that their engine was not going to be needed for water and to suit up to assist with suppression efforts. After gearing up Beauvais was paired with Mooresville Engine 5 led by (OIC Stutts & FF Furr) to assist with checking for extension along with any other signs of fire. After entering the structure the team first started on the first floor but were then quickly diverted to the second floor for suppression efforts and to open up void spaces to find hidden fire. While completing this task Mount Mourne Engine 1 led by Chief 700 (R.Hoover) were opening up the roof for better visibility for the interior crews working. A control time was issued within an hour as Shepherds was told to go available after getting their SCBA bottles filled. Shepherds Engine 1 was back in their respective due after an hour and fifteen minutes.
