With record setting high heat humidity temperatures for the year Shepherds on duty personnel had already checked off equipment for the day and made sure the coolers were filled with fresh water and ice as they prepared for the day ahead. At 11:58hrs Shepherds along with Engine 2 were alerted to a reported AFA (Automatic Fire Alarm) activation in the 400 block of Greenbay rd in Shepherds station 2's first due. Moments later Shepherds Engine 1, 3 & Mooresville Engine 2 were responding. Mintues later Engine 2 arrived on location of a 2 story residential structure with nothing evident. Command (E2 OIC J.McCoy) advised of a false activation and all units could cancel just as Engine 1 was coming down the hill. @ 14:10hrs Shepherds was alerted to assist Mooresville Fire units on a reported gas leak outside (main struck) in the 100 block of Nahcotta Dr (Engine 4's first due) With several Mooresville units O.O.S (conducting training) Engine 4 OIC (E.Pope) advised ECOM to add Shepherds on the run as they were responding from the Westside of town. Engine 1 responded and arrived on location and indeed found a line struck by workers who were on the premises digging. Engine 1 stood fast and blocked off the area as Battalion 1 (R.Colvert) arrived to close off the other end. Mooresville Engine 2 (Hazmat) were called in to clamp off the line. Same was done so with ease as command released Shepherds within 30 minutes. @16:46hrs Shepherds and Engine 4 were alerted to a reported traffic accident with injuries @ the intersection of Perth Rd & Cornelius. With several members at the station along with the daytime staff Engine 4 was cancelled as Shepherds Engine 1 & Rescue 5 responded. Imed 11 arrived on location first and advised of a 3 car MVA with multiple patients. Shepherds arrived minutes later and began assisting EMS with pt care and fluids on the ground. Additional EMS units (Imed 10 & 6) were called to assist with the injured. Once on location all pt's were packaged and loaded for transport with Shepherds remaining on location to assist NCSHP & local wreckers with removing damaged vehicles and traffic control. All units were back in normal service within the hour.
