Multiple Calls For Service

By Asst. Chief Danny Beauvais
August 19, 2014

The past 48 hours has been unusually busy for Shepherds with a total of 11 calls for service being dispatched. Calls ranged from local medicals, possible house fires, automatic fire alarm activation's and a few illegal burns. Not only were members busy responding to calls but various training sessions were conducted within the past week. Last Wednesday evening Shepherds emptied out the house and headed over to Stumpy Creek marine access and conducted drafting, relay pumping and stretching handlines for current and newly promoted drivers along with several Firefighters to keep skills sharp. Members drafted from Lake Norman utilizing Engine 3 and relayed some 200 odd feet over to Tanker 1 and flowed hand lines. Last night members pulled off all 1000 feet of 4'LDH hose off of Engine 2 and reloaded same with brand new LDH along with tidying up certain dead lays (some on Engine 2 & Tanker 1). It never hurts to practice the proper way to deploying & loading hose! After training was complete the members partook in a little firehouse camaraderie catching up with one another and telling a few jokes before heading home for the night.
